Mancanegara, JBM.CO.ID | Pemerintah Amerika Serikat (AS) lakukan uji vaksin virus corona di Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, Seattle, Senin (16/3/2020).
Pejabat kesehatan AS mengatakan butuh waktu sekitar satu tahun hingga 18 bulan untuk memvalidasi potensi uji coba vaksin corona, National Institute of Health (NIH) sebagai pihak yang mendanai uji coba mengatakan pengujian akan dilakukan dengan melibatkan 45 sukarelawan muda dan sehat. Mereka akan disuntikkan dosis vaksin virus corona berbeda.Nantinya, peserta akan berbicara mengenai proses yang dilalui secara anonim karena langkah tersebut belum diumumkan secara publik.
Vaksin yang dikembangkan oleh NIH dan Moderna Inc. ini diklaim tidak memberikan efek samping yang mengkhawatirkan. Di samping itu, para sukarelawan dipastikan tidak terinfeksi suntikan yang mengandung virus itu sendiri.
Fauci mengatakan butuh studi lanjutan untuk mengetahui apakah vaksin bisa benar-benar melindungi orang yang terinfeksi dan tidak membahayakan masyarakat.Sejauh ini belum ada perawatan yang terbukti bisa menyembuhkan Covid-19.
Ilmuwan di China sempat menguji coba kombinasi obat HIV serta remdesivir yang dikembangkan untuk infeksi ebola guna menyembuhkan orang yang terinfeksi virus corona.
Selain China, Pusat Medis Nebraska University juga menguji remdesivir terhadap beberapa penumpang kapal pesiar Diamond Princess yang kembali dari Jepang.Beberapa penelitian bahkan mengembangkan vaksin sementara seperti suntikan untuk menjaga daya tahan tubuh yang bisa melindungi selama satu hingga dua bulan.
Ilmuwan China dan Korea Selatan hingga saat ini masih mengembangkan vaksin untuk menghentikan penyebaran infeksi virus corona.Hingga saat ini, virus corona tercatat sudah menginfeksi 165. 969 orang di seluruh dunia.
